Krueng AI · Prompt English Series

The Grammar of Talking to AI

Ten patterns. Three dozen phrases. Everything from the Prompt English video series, in one place — so you can prompt ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude clearly in English, even if your English is basic.

ไทย 简体中文 English

What is this page? The 10-episode Prompt English series teaches the small, specific subset of English you need to command an AI — not chat with one. The grammar is narrow and learnable. Master these ten patterns and you can do real work in English: write emails, fix mistakes, compare options, prepare for interviews, find a job.

Every English phrase below is shown with a Thai translation (ไทย) and a simplified Chinese translation (中文). The placeholders in [brackets] are where you fill in your own situation.

English phrase ภาษาไทย 简体中文
1

Command Verbs EP01 · Imperative

Start your prompt with a verb. The AI obeys verbs the way a kitchen obeys a chef.
Verb + [object] + [details].

English imperatives drop the subject (no "you"). The verb comes first and the AI does what the verb says. About 90% of useful prompts begin with one of these 8 verbs.

2

Role-Framing EP02 · "Act as a..."

Tell the AI who to be. A teacher answers like a teacher; a lawyer like a lawyer.
Act as a [role]. Then ask your question.

Act as + indefinite article (a / an) + role noun. This single sentence reshapes the entire personality of the answer. Use a role and the AI stops giving you generic advice.

Useful roles to memorize

  • a teacher · a tutor · a translator · a chef · a doctor · a lawyer · an accountant · a hotel receptionist · a tour guide · a job interviewer · a kind editor
3

Constraint Phrases EP03 · Length, Format, Style

Tell the AI how long and how simple. Otherwise it will write too much, in English that's too hard.
Verb + topic + "in" / "under" + [constraint].

The little prepositions in and under are doing heavy lifting. "In 3 bullet points" = formatting. "Under 50 words" = length cap. "In simple English" = vocabulary level. Stack them.

Stacking constraints (very powerful)

  • Explain photosynthesis in 3 bullet points, under 50 words, in simple English.
4

Context Setup EP04 · "I am... I want... Here is..."

Two sentences before the question. Tell the AI who you are and what's happening.
I am a [role]. [Situation].

The verb to be ("am / is / are") in the present simple is how English introduces identity. "I am a..." = identity. "I want to..., but..." = goal + obstacle. "Here is what happened." = story setup. Always set context first.

Real example

  • I am a Thai hotel worker. A guest asked me a question. I want to write a polite reply, but my English is basic. Here is what they said: "..."
5

Asking for Examples EP05 · "Give me N examples..."

When the AI's answer is too abstract, ask for examples. Concrete > theoretical.
Give me [number] examples of [topic].

"Give" is a transfer verb that takes two objects: give me [thing]. Add a number to bound the answer. Add "of [topic]" with the preposition of to point at the subject.

Why this works

  • The modal "would" in "how a real person would say this" asks for natural, lived English — not textbook English. This is the single highest-value 7 words on the page.
6

Comparison Prompts EP06 · "What's the difference..."

Use AI as a side-by-side comparison engine for any two confusing things.
What's the difference between [X] and [Y]?

A wh-question with an inverted verb (What is... → What's...). The phrase "the difference between A and B" is a fixed pattern; learn it as one unit. The preposition between always pairs with two items.

7

Rewriting & Fixing EP07 · The Highest-ROI Pattern

The single most useful prompt family for non-native speakers — give the AI your draft, get it cleaned up.
Make it [adjective]. / Rewrite this [adverb / in style].

Two patterns. "Make it [adjective]" uses the verb make with a small change-of-state object — shorter, longer, simpler, friendlier. "Rewrite this in [style]" swaps in a new register: politer, more professional, more casual.

Useful "Make it..." adjectives

  • Make it shorter / longer / simpler / clearer / friendlier / more polite / more formal / more casual.
8

Structured Output EP08 · Lists, Tables, Bullets

Force the answer into a shape your eyes can scan. Walls of text are unreadable.
Make this a [format]. / Put this in a [format] with [fields].

The verb make + object + complement ("a numbered list") tells the AI to transform the data, not just describe it. "With [columns]" uses the preposition with to specify what the table needs.

9

Step by Step EP09 · Force AI to Slow Down

Turn any answer into a tutorial. The AI teaches better when you ask it to walk you through.
Explain it step by step. / Walk me through [task].

The phrase "step by step" is an English idiom — same noun repeated with by = "incrementally". The phrasal verb "walk through" figuratively asks the AI to take you by the hand. Asking "What is the first step?" forces a starting point.

The Job-Search Prompt EP10 · Capstone — Use Everything

Combine role + rewrite + step-by-step in one workflow. This is how you actually find a job using AI.
Role-frame → rewrite/clean → step-by-step prep. Three prompts in sequence.

The capstone shows that real prompting chains the patterns from earlier episodes. EP10 puts together role-framing (EP02), rewriting (EP07), and step-by-step (EP09) into a complete workflow you can use today.
