Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system
📖 Vocabulary
📚 Reading — Earth's Evil Twin
Venus is often called "Earth's twin" because the two planets are similar in size. However, Venus is very different from Earth in almost every other way.
Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system, even though Mercury is closer to the Sun. The temperature on Venus reaches about 465°C (อุณหภูมิ 465 องศา). This is because Venus has a thick atmosphere of carbon dioxide that traps heat — like a greenhouse (เรือนกระจก).
The clouds on Venus are made of sulfuric acid (กรดซัลฟิวริก), which would be extremely dangerous for humans. The atmospheric pressure on the surface is about 90 times greater than on Earth.
Venus rotates backwards compared to most planets. This means the Sun rises in the west and sets in the east. A day on Venus is longer than a year on Venus — it takes 243 Earth days to rotate once, but only 225 days to orbit the Sun!
